Already Required

Where Registration Is Mandatory Today

Most of this is long-standing. Supported independent living and NDIS digital platforms were added from 1 July 2026, with transition arrangements for providers already operating.

  • Specialist Disability Accommodation

SDA providers must be registered and their dwellings enrolled.

  • Regulated restrictive practices

Implementing them requires registration and a behaviour support plan from a registered specialist behaviour support provider.

  • NDIA-managed participants

Their funding can only be spent with registered providers, whatever the support.

  • Where the plan requires it

Supports where the participant’s plan or the NDIA requires a registered provider.

  • Supported independent living

From 1 July 2026, SIL providers must be registered with the NDIS Commission.

  • NDIS digital platforms

From 1 July 2026, platform providers must be registered with the NDIS Commission.

Not Settled

What Reform Is Actually Doing

Governments have been working towards a model in which every provider carries some regulatory obligation, graduated by the risk of the supports they deliver. The direction is not seriously in dispute. The detail is: which tiers exist, which supports fall into which, and when any of it commences.

We Will Not Invent a Deadline

A lot of marketing in this sector quotes a start date for mandatory registration as if it were fixed. Those dates have moved. Ask us and we will tell you where it stands on the day — and point you to the Commission’s own published position.

Checked against NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and NDIA published guidance on 11 October 2026. Confirm anything you are about to act on at ndiscommission.gov.au, or ask us.

FAQ

Mandatory Registration Questions

Is NDIS registration mandatory?

For some supports and some participants, yes. Specialist disability accommodation, implementing regulated restrictive practices and any work with NDIA-managed participants have long required it, and since 1 July 2026 so do supported independent living and NDIS digital platforms. For everything else it is currently a commercial decision, and it is the subject of active reform.

When does mandatory registration start?

For supported independent living and digital platforms it started on 1 July 2026, with transition arrangements for providers already operating. Beyond those, there is no single date we can give you honestly. Reform has been staged and revised more than once. Anyone quoting you a firm commencement date for a general mandatory registration regime is going further than the published position supports. Ask us and we will tell you where it stands on the day.

Will I be forced to register for everything I do?

The models under discussion graduate obligations by risk rather than applying the full certification regime to everybody. A provider delivering lower-risk supports would be expected to carry lighter obligations than one delivering high intensity personal care. The detail is what is unresolved.

Should I register now or wait?

Decide on the commercial case rather than the regulatory one. If reaching NDIA-managed participants would change your business, the case already exists and waiting costs you work. If it would not, waiting is reasonable — just do not plan to register in the same month as everybody else.

What does registering cost?

Our packages are a fixed price, from $899, and can be paid upfront or with Afterpay at checkout. Payment plans are available: ask our team when we call. The auditor’s fee is separate: Your audit is carried out by an independent NDIS-approved quality auditor. Their fee is paid directly to them and is set by the services you apply for, so it is not part of our price. EnableUs partners with an approved auditor to get you good pricing.
