NDIS Registration Across Australia
Registration is national, so the packages and prices are the same everywhere. What differs by state and territory is worker screening and when the NDIS Commission took over. Our offices are in Sydney and Melbourne, and we work with providers everywhere else online.
The Short Answer
Is NDIS provider registration different in each state?
No. NDIS provider registration is national: the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission registers and regulates providers in every state and territory under the same rules and Practice Standards. What differs by state is worker screening, which each state or territory runs itself, and the date the Commission took over there.
Worker Screening
NDIS Worker Screening, State by State
Every worker in a risk-assessed role needs an NDIS Worker Screening Check. You apply through the screening unit where you live. The full worker screening guide →
| State or territory | Who runs screening | How to apply | Commission since |
|---|---|---|---|
| New South Wales | Service NSW | In NSW the check is called the NDIS Worker Check. Workers apply online through a MyServiceNSW account, then visit a Service NSW Centre within 28 days to verify their identity. Official page | 1 July 2018 |
| Victoria | Victorian NDIS Worker Screening Unit | Workers apply for the NDIS Worker Screening Check online through Service Victoria, and the NDIS Worker Screening Unit assesses the application. Official page | 1 July 2019 |
| Queensland | Queensland Worker Screening Services | Queensland runs NDIS worker screening as Disability Worker Screening, through Queensland Worker Screening Services. The quickest route is the online portal at workerscreening.qld.gov.au. Official page | 1 July 2019 |
| Western Australia | Department of Communities | The NDIS Worker Screening Unit sits within the WA Department of Communities, and the NDIS Check application is made online through the DoTDirect portal. Official page | 1 December 2020 |
| South Australia | Department of Human Services Screening Unit | Workers apply for an NDIS Worker Check through a Screening SA account, after their employer has verified the application with its NDIS Employer ID. Official page | 1 July 2018 |
| Tasmania | Tasmanian Department of Justice | In Tasmania, workers apply for Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) and request an NDIS Worker Screening Check as part of that application. Official page | 1 July 2019 |
| Australian Capital Territory | Access Canberra | In the ACT, NDIS worker checks are part of the Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) scheme run by Access Canberra. A cleared worker’s WWVP card shows “NDIS ACTIVITIES - Yes”. Official page | 1 July 2019 |
| Northern Territory | SAFE NT | SAFE NT (Screening Assessment for Employment NT) manages NDIS worker screening in the Territory. Workers apply online and need their employer’s NDIS Employer ID before they start. Official page | 1 July 2019 |

How the Audit Works in Every State
Every registered provider is audited by an independent NDIS-approved quality auditor, not by the Commission and not by us. Which audit you get depends on your registration groups, not on where you are.
- Verification: a desktop review of your documents and evidence, for lower-risk supports.
- Certification: a two-stage audit against the Practice Standards, on site or remote.
- Auditors set their own fees. We partner with an approved auditor for good pricing.
FAQ
NDIS Registration by Location: Questions
Do I register with my state or with the NDIS Commission?
With the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Registration is national, and you apply through the Commission’s portal wherever you are. Your state or territory runs worker screening, not registration.
Is NDIS worker screening the same in every state?
The NDIS Worker Screening Check is a national check, but you apply through the worker screening unit in your state or territory, and each runs its own process. The table on this page lists each one with a link to its official page.
Can one registration cover more than one state?
Yes. Because registration is with the national Commission, one registration can cover supports you deliver in more than one state or territory. Your application sets out where you operate.
Do prices change depending on where I am?
No. The four packages cost the same everywhere in Australia: Verification $899, Core $1,999, Specialist $2,499, SDA $1,099.
Do you work with providers outside Sydney and Melbourne?
Yes. Our offices are in Sydney and Melbourne, and we work with providers everywhere else online. Everything in a package is delivered online.
How does the audit work if I am regional or remote?
An independent NDIS-approved quality auditor conducts it. Verification is a desktop review of your documents and evidence; a certification audit can be on site or remote. Your location does not change which audit applies: your registration groups do.
